Did You Finally Go Blonde???

I finally got my hair died, platinum blonde. I've wanted to do it for some time now. The only other time I've had my hair colored was right after high school, when my mom was going to beauty school and needed a guinea pig to practice on.

The reason why I wanted to dye my hair, now, is because I've had a couple of people suggest it. It first came up a few years ago, when my friend and I started our mobile DJ business, and another friend of mine told me that we just didn't look like DJs. She said we looked more like nice Asian schoolboys. She suggested that we try and go for an edgier look, and referred me to her hair stylist. Since then, I've been going to that stylist to get my hair cut many times, but I never mentioned anything about me being a DJ or wanting to look more edgy.

It was only last month that I finally asked about getting my hair dyed, which surprised my stylist. She didn't know that I was a DJ, and thought that I was still just a student. When I explained to her that I was a DJ and would like to have an edgier look, she understood. She said that it would take at least 3 hours to color my hair, and we agreed to have it done the next time I went in for a haircut. I went in to see her last week, and we got it done.

Earlier in the year, my former boss shared with me his experiences of playing music at weddings as a violinist in a string quartet. He told me that the DJs that left the best impressions were the ones who came to the events with outlandish hair. He said one DJ showed up to a wedding with a brightly died orange mohawk, and when people asked him, "who are you?", he replied, "I'm the DJ", and everyone's response was, "OF COURSE, you are!!" And simply because he looked the part of a DJ, the guests felt that they were in good hands, and partied their butts off. Funny, because on numerous occasions, my buddy and I would show up to a gig and no one would have ever guessed that we were the DJs.

Since we have a couple of gigs this month, I think now's a good time to try the hair-coloring thing out. When my friends and family saw the hair, they liked it. I guess it does go with what I'm doing and the identity I'm trying to create. I don't know if I'll continue to have it colored, but we'll see. To my cousin, who asked on Facebook, "Did you finally go blonde???".. the answer is, "Yes, I did finally go blonde. It was time."
